I recently received this request from a university student who wrote to say that she was writing a paper on In An Antique Land: ‘It would mean a lot to me if you can send me a photo of you in the filed or as a young anthropologist; i was looking but, didn’t find the right Image of you.’
Unfortunately I have very few pictures of myself that date back to my stay in the villages that are called ‘Lataifa’ and ‘Nashawy’ in In An Antique Land: most of them have been misplaced in the course of my travels. One of the very few that I still have is posted below:
Just finishing up ‘In an Antique land’ and thought of googling Lataifa and Nashawy and stumbled upon this gem. Made my day. Who are you with in this photograph? (The one in the brown jallabeyyah). Anyone from the book?
